About this sailing adventure
Granite islands rising straight out of turquoise water, sea lions barking on the rocks, and not another charter boat in sight. The Sea of Cortez off La Paz is one of the wildest cruising grounds left in the world, the kind of place Jacques Cousteau once called the aquarium of the world. This is a week aboard a brand new Bali 4.6 catamaran, 2022, fitted with a desalinator so fresh water is never a concern on this desert coast. Starting from Costa Baja Marina in La Paz, the route runs through Isla Espiritu Santo and the smaller islands around it: hidden coves with no one else in them, colonies of sea lions you swim right up to, and a fair chance of dolphins, mobula rays and even whale sharks passing under the hull. The desert backdrop of Baja California Sur is unlike anywhere else on a sailing trip: bare red mountains meeting impossibly clear blue water. This is a small group departure, a handful of places on one boat rather than a bareboat charter, so the cost is per place, not per yacht. Trip is 5 to 12 December. We recommend flying into La Paz (via Mexico City or Guadalajara) a couple of days early to settle into the time zone before we sail.
